What Is A Doula?

Doulas are professional birth coaches who provide emotional, informational, physical, and mental support to women during the prenatal, birth, and postpartum periods.

Doulas do not provide medical care, but they are extraordinarily knowledgeable about childbirth. Their major role is to provide the necessary support to the mother leading up to and during childbirth. There are also specific types of doulas, such as Antepartum Doulas, who assist women who are having a high-risk pregnancy or are on bed rest during pregnancy, and Postpartum Doulas, who assist women during the postpartum periods.

Birthing Support Is Important

Having a Doula on your birthing team helps to support mommy and family so you are not alone during your pregnancy!

During this exciting time, you will have the full support of your Doula to guide you and be the support you need. Your medical team and staff are the support of medical and labor care. The Doula will be available for you during this time for physical, mental and emotional support. At times mom's go unheard on how they are feeling or just knowing that if she needs to have that person to just be there for comfort and reassurance.

Having a Doula present at births brings that confidence of knowing she has her personal cheerleader to see her through the delivery of that beautiful baby. And based on proven evidence shows that mothers have easier births, fewer pain medications are needed. Babies are healthier, more alert, and breastfeeding is easier.
